Tell Attorney General Brnovich Arizona Needs the Affordable Care Act
Dear Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich,
The Affordable Care Act provides Americans with critical protections, rights, and options when it comes to our healthcare. In the midst of a global pandemic, undermining our nation’s healthcare system could mean the difference between life and death for everyday Arizonans. Attorney General Brnovich, we the undersigned urge you to withdraw from the California v. Texas lawsuit.
Attorney General Brnovich, you have entered our state into a lawsuit that threatens the health of our economy and our families. You did so without permission from the state legislature, Governor Ducey, or us voters. Your constituents agree: now, more than ever, our state needs the Affordable Care Act.
Consider also the 2.8 million Arizonans living with cancer, diabetes, and other preexisting conditions who would lose coverage or pay more without the ACA’s protection.
Consider the nearly 63,000 school-aged children in Arizona that have health coverage thanks to Medicaid Expansion, a provision of the Affordable Care Act.
Consider the more than 62,000 Arizona health care and related jobs created by the ACA, per a 2017 study by ASU’s WP Carey School of Business.
Without the protections offered by the Affordable Care Act, hospitals would buckle under the costs of uncompensated care. Patients would be saddled with mountains of medical debt. People would delay testing and treatment, and our community and our economy would suffer. In your role as the leading consumer advocate in Arizona, you should consider the risk to health and safety posed by a complete or partial repeal of the Affordable Care Act.
Our lives are on the line. Mr. Brnovich, please. Pull out of this harmful, reckless lawsuit today.
