As your constituent, I urge you to reject any federal budget proposals that threaten Medicaid (AHCCCS) and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). These basic need programs are lifelines for hundreds of thousands of Arizonans — especially vulnerable children and Arizonans.

Cuts to Medicaid and SNAP would increase food insecurity, reduce access to health care, and deepen hardship for families who are already struggling to make ends meet. These cuts would be the largest in the history of these services, and they would harm Arizonans and Arizona’s economy.

Arizona has a bipartisan history of supporting health care delivered in a public-private partnership through AHCCCS. Voters like me approved expanding AHCCCS coverage for low-income Arizonans in 2000, and in 2013, Governor Jan Brewer signed a bill expanding eligibility for Arizona's Medicaid program, AHCCCS, under the Affordable Care Act. We still support basic services for Arizonans in need.

These historic cuts are too much, too fast. They will make life harder. Please stand up for Arizona families and the economy by protecting Medicaid and SNAP in the federal budget. Don’t make life harder.
